How the Coronavirus pandemic impacts healthcare facilities

2 min read

With the widespread transmission of Coronavirus around the world, and the stress its putting on hospital resources, the condition of the facilities where treatment and testing takes place requires close attention.

The CDC (Center for Disease Control) has published a checklist for healthcare facility preparedness that is a guideline for hospitals to follow so that they can manage the spread of infection while treating patients infected with the Coronavirus.

The CDC guidelines suggests that hospitals need to be prepared to:

  • Care for a limited number of infected patients as part of routine operations
  • Potentially care for a larger number of patients in the context of escalating transmission
  • Outline plans for administrative, environmental, and communication measures
  • Define the individual work practices that will be required to detect the introduction of MERS-CoV or other emerging infectious diseases
  • Prevent spread of MERS-CoV
  • Manage the impact on patients, the facility, and staff

During this period, many facilities management companies that are responsible for maintaining healthcare facilities can take advantage of technology that exists to ensure that facility management operations are being carried out with great diligence.

For example, monitoring your facility management workforce to make sure that they are spending adequate amounts of time at each location on a regular basis can help to maintain facilities at the desired sanitation level.

One of our customers is using our software to track all field personnel in real-time and uses QR-code scans to make sure that each and every location was being cleaned and sanitized a certain number of times per day and field service personnel were spending a specific amount of time at each location. Using our Geofence technology, they were able to track over 15 of their field workers in real-time and generate audits and performance reports at the end the day and on a weekly basis to understand the gaps in their field operations and take action to fix them.

A similar field service automation system would help facility management companies to deliver high performance and assist in containing infectious diseases like the Coronavirus.
